#30 new defect

SG incompatible with Xfire

Reported by: pardner Owned by:
Priority: minor Milestone:
Component: Engine Version: 1.1
Keywords: xfire ioq3 ioquake3 Cc:

Description (last modified by pardner)

Platform,OS: WinServer2008 x64, Win7 x32/x64, WinVista? x32
Engine/game version: SG1.1Bx, SG1.1RCx, SG1.1
Xfire version: Xfire 1.151

How to reproduce:

  1. Launch Xfire and login
  2. Xfire should autodetect SG. If not, manually add SG to the games list.
  3. Launch SG or join server via external server browser

Result:

  1. User input devices do not function properly.
    1. Tested: USB keyboard, PS/2 keyboard, USB mouse.
    2. Mouse buttons function properly, but mouse movement does not.
    3. Keyboard completely un-responsive.

Notes:

  1. Problem occurred since SG1.1b1.
  2. Problem did not exist in SG1.0
  3. Initially thought bug might be related to IOQ3 engine.
    1. Compiled trunk IOQ3 engine and run with ID's baseq3 files. Test yielded identical results to SGv1.1. Tested it again with newest Xfire and latest IoQ3 and everything worked as it should.

  4. Priority marked "minor" as it does not effect SG directly, it does however damage our public relations with the Xfire community.

Response to Xfire ticket:

Hi p4rdner,

Thanks for the report, I will take a look at this issue. Hopefully a fix will be available in an Xfire Game Support update soon that will get rid of the crashes (while trying to keep XIG, but it may not be possible).

Best regards,
-Franck

Xfire Version 1.155 disables Xfire-In-Game. This disables the Xfire overlay and chat client. Xfire still logs hours and the game is playable as expected.
